If you want to feel all the life
and energy that flows around in this street follow my lead! Pick a precisely beautiful
day with a mild breeze and a shimmering sun light as its two main ingredients! Kick
off your journey from the main door of University of Tehran AKA 50 Tomani! Walk
down to Valiasr quarter and have your eyes on the people who are walking in the
opposite direction! The people you see here you’ll find in no other place in
this intensity! Most of them, art students recognized by the art craft or
musical instruments they carry on their backs! Most of them peculiar out of this
world! Guys with long hair and girls in long skirts! They all walk by the green
fencing of the university, all so departed from this world, all so in character
as they were destined for this side walk, to shine under its amazing lighting!
So you should’ve reached Ghods by know and you may think the magic is over but
wait a second! Look to your left! See that English book store! I know that you
want no English books but trust me, step in this store and ask how much a random book is and you’ll hear the most American accent there is to be heard in
this town for this man has listened to English recordings that are played over
and over in his store for all his life or that’s my version of his life story! Ok!
I know that you see some exciting venues by the road but trust me for now just get
excited about them ‘cause we will make a turnaround but not before you cross
over Vesal! I know that you respect rules but for this one time join the crowd
of people who pass the street at a red light but put your focus on the drivers’
expressions, they all talk to you so passionately: Bitch! Don’t you see it’s
our green?! If I were you I would keep on going till I reach Vali Asr square
but I feel that you’re running out of patience so make your grand turnaround!
Here we go! Keep your eyes open ‘cause familiar faces always show up in the
bulk of strangers who pass you by! It’s the magic of the street! Ok! We’re
going in the exciting bookstore this time, the one, and the only: Ofoq! Do look
around and wonder why the English books have to be so expensive but notice
something else for me as well! There’s always someone looking for a gift here!
If you’re lucky you get to see the whole pack: Guy holding a cake and crazy
chicks around him running around trying to find the perfect gift for wrapping
up a surprise birthday party! To everything there is another side and so is to
Enghelab! Pass the street with me, will you?! Do look at the beauty of Cafe’
Faranse and the joy of people standing behind its windows ‘cause we are saying
goodbye to the glamorous part of this street and stepping into a land I would
like to call the land of the God forsaken! In every inch of this land you’ll
see, worn out leather coats, greasy hair and you can just wonder where the god forsaken
land have they come from and where are they going in this rush! There it is! The
beauty! Flags up in the sky! The world’s most pretty university entrance! You
want to capture this beauty at least with a camera phone but there is always
and I mean always a creepy guy standing there to creep you out and let’s be honest
without these creepy people this side of Enghelab would have no character at
all! Now open your ears and listen to life! To book store advertisements, to
the street! All’s happening so fast that you can’t catch breath! Pass over to the
other side of the street, listen to the poor man crying out his heart that
there’s a café in this dead end, forgotten alley! Get on a car and ride home revitalized
‘cause you just lived all life has to offer in one street!
